Wine Regions of Champagne

Located in north-eastern France on a small range of hills rising from a chalk plain, a key factor in its growing,Champagne is synonymous with the world’s best known sparkling white wine that bears its name. The State can boast more than 100 Champagne houses and 19,000 smaller winegrowers with a total of 84,000 acres planted to vineyard Marne department, in southern Champagne, is the State’s most productive wine growing area, accounting for two-thirds of the total crop There are three grapes that dominate the Champagne region – the meaty Pinot Noir (about 40% of the vineyards) is the most planted, Pinot Meunier and the creamy Chardonnay. Among champagnes made from the region-wide blends are the super-luxury prestige brands such as Moet & Chandon’s Dom Perignon, Laurent-Perrier’s Grand Siecle and Louis Roederer’s Cristal.
