Fleurie Wines

Fleurie wines are widely regarded as some of the most refined and aromatic expressions within the Beaujolais crus. The vineyards are located on elevated slopes with excellent sun exposure and well-drained soils. These conditions support slow ripening, allowing grapes to develop both flavour and aromatic complexity. Gamay performs exceptionally well in this environment, producing wines that emphasise elegance over power. Red berry flavours such as strawberry and raspberry are commonly present, along with delicate floral notes. The wines are typically light to medium-bodied, with fine tannins and balanced acidity. As a result, they are often appreciated for their graceful and perfumed style. Subtle spice and soft mineral undertones can also appear, adding further interest without overpowering the wine’s delicate profile. Granite-rich soils play a key role in shaping the character of these wines.

They contribute to both structure and aromatic clarity. Vineyard positioning across slopes and elevations allows for subtle differences in expression. Because of this, wines can vary slightly in intensity while maintaining overall elegance. In addition, favourable microclimates across the slopes help preserve freshness and support consistent flavour development throughout the growing season.

Wine Techniques And Soil

Winemaking in this cru often focuses on enhancing finesse rather than extraction. Gentle techniques are used to retain fruit purity and softness. In many cases, producers aim to highlight the natural floral qualities of the grape. Careful timing of harvest also plays an important role in achieving balance and maintaining the wine’s delicate structure. Some winemakers also experiment with partial oak ageing to introduce subtle texture while preserving freshness.

While approachable in youth, some wines develop added depth with time. This balance between immediate appeal and ageing potential adds to their versatility. Fleurie wines are recognised for their refined texture and lifted aromatics, offering a delicate interpretation of Gamay that stands apart within the Beaujolais region.
