Behind this premium tea curator’s company are a burns survivor story and a great cause. In 2011, Janet’s son Jake was at a birthday celebration around a campfire when a lit kettle was thrown at him unintentionally. Jake was severely burnt with 69% of his body covered with third-degree wounds and only a 35% chance of survival.

During the period of Jake’s gruesome recovery with countless surgeries, treatments and medications, he discovered that many of his burns unit friends did not have the same privilege to the treatments he had due to financial restrictions.

Despite good progress in Jake’s physical healing, he lacked energy and felt demotivated. After much persuasion, Jake finally agreed to try out Janet’s two types of daily detox tea for AM and PM and within a short time, he regained much of his energy and was getting out of bed with a sense of purpose.

Inspired by the whole experience, Jake and Janet founded the Roach Foundation. It was their way to give back to the society by offering other burns survivors and their families the support needed during their treatment and recovery process. This is achieved through research in burns treatment technologies, treatments and mentoring.
