Cooking by his mother's side as a child and working in a Portuguese bakery as a teen, Emeril embraced the culinary world, declining a scholarship to the New England Conservatory of Music to earn his undergraduate and doctorate degrees at Johnson and Wales university. Trained in classic French cuisine, his flagship self named restaurant empire continues to expand, with over 12 locations throughout the U.S. and an expansion of cuisines to include Italian and American fare. The author of numerous cookbooks, Emeril has his own radio show, food column and culinary products line. The James Beard winner has amassed as many industry awards. He established the Emeril Lagasse Foundation to fund children's culinary arts educational programmes
