David Chang is a pioneering chef and restaurateur whose work has redefined modern Asian-inspired cuisine. Born in Virginia to Korean immigrant parents, he initially pursued golf but discovered his true passion in the kitchen. After training at the French Culinary Institute in New York, Chang gained experience in renowned kitchens, including Mercer Kitchen and Craft, before spending time in Japan, where the country’s ramen culture profoundly influenced his culinary vision.
In 2004, Chang opened Momofuku Noodle Bar in New York City, a small ramen restaurant that quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Beyond the kitchen, Chang has made a significant impact in media. He co-founded Lucky Peach, an influential food magazine, and later launched the Majority-Food podcast network. His Netflix series Ugly Delicious and Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner brought his culinary philosophy to a global audience, blending food exploration with cultural storytelling.
Chang’s memoir, Eat a Peach, provides a candid look at his experiences with mental health and the pressures of the culinary world, sparking important conversations about wellness in the industry. Today, he continues to innovate across restaurants, media, and advocacy, earning recognition as one of the most influential and relatable chefs of his generation.
